Fabric! Fabric! Fabric!

I love picking out fabric, just like I like the sprinkles isle at Bulk Barn. The colors force you to be happy! I spent  this weekend back home with my lovely mom and my great friends. While I was home I was lucky enough to do some shopping.

At Fabricland I bought this beautiful linen that I plan to use to make a variety of Infinity Scarves because there are so many great tutorials, I just can't decide.

I bought this cute polka dot material at JoAnne when I took a trip stateside with my mom. It's to bind the quilt I have made for my friend's kid. I'll post a pic when I'm done. Fingers crossed!

These fabrics I bought at JoAnne. They are for a quilt I'm going to make for my massage therapist as a "Thank you" before I move. She has been awesome to me and has helped me discover my creative side. She has always had a dream of having her Melissa Etheridge concert T's made into a quilt, so thats what I'm doing!

Thanks for reading my post. I know my pics aren't as gorgeous as the rest. I have a craft tote and a tiny one bedroom instead of a nice craft room in a house. I'm not going to let it stop me though.

I'm off to do a little bit of painting. I have an idea to transform this beautiful pattern paper into coasters or trivets even if I'm not a kid!

bon soir!

The Artist's Way, Pintrest and my need to create!

Around this time last year, I learned a few things. First, my parents were separating after 26 years of marriage. Second, my father, who's drinking I just thought was "normal", is in fact an alcoholic. After many tears, mixed feelings, books and some therapy I learned that I love to make things. Whether it's painting, drawing, cooking or sewing, it's my therapy and my way of showing I am grateful to be here on this earth.

Last year, I followed Julia Carmeron's program outlined in her book The Artist's Way, which let me get in touch with my creativity. It is sad that so many of us have fallen out of touch with this creative aspects of our lives because it can be so very rewarding.

I have recently discovered the site Pintrest which has inspired me in so many ways. I have made pincushions, crayon hearts and different food. I even went out, bought a sewing machine, taught myself to sew and made my first quilt. Actually, I already have a second quilt lined up.

This quilt is going to be a gift for my massage therapist who suggested The Artist's Way to me. This idea got me thinking. I can make gifts. I guess after you grow up you think that gifts need to be bought. If teaching Senior Kindergarten this year has taught me anything it's that the things that mean the Most come from the heart.

I have now decided that I will make all of my gifts for Christmas next year. This goal won't be super easy to achieve but I'm going to put forth the effort. One of my challenges will be that I will be leaving my small apartment in Toronto and moving in with my mom into her condo. Space will be somewhat hard to come by. Also, I'll be leaving with my mom and I'll have to make her gifts while she is out. Another challenge will be that I could potentially be jobless so this means I'll be doing this on a small budget. And of course, I still have to start and finish that quilt!

I hope you will enjoy my journey....my posts will hopefully have more pictures in the future but here are some of my most recent creations.

One of the pincushions I made for some friends...still need to make one for me!

I made these at a mosaic studio so I have no link. : (
